There is a long-standing partnership between Yerevan State University and Fresno University. Barlow Deacon Ter-Mkrtchyan also testified about this in the conversation with us, pointing out a number of programs and projects implemented within the framework of cooperation.
"In the course of the past thirty years, we have carried out student exchange; we have implemented a training program for young female teachers and various other programs. I have often brought students from Fresno to Armenia. The most important thing is that YSU supported me in the issues of their implementation", assures the head of the Armenian studies department of Fresno University.
From the words of Deacon Ter-Mkrtchyan, it is already clear how much he values the steps toward the development of Armenian studies, the scholarships he provided to students are one of the vivid examples of this. When talking about the importance of the scholarship, he particularly emphasizes its role, considering it a factor that promotes students' progress.
"I think that the program of "Genocide studies" is of great importance. We need specialists who are well informed about the Genocide. I would like to encourage the students to do their best and be excellent specialists," says our interlocutor.
The aspiration to become one of the best specialists in the field brought Shushan to Yerevan State University. Years later, Shushan returned to her native university again, this time with the decision to become a specialist in Genocide studies.
"While studying at the Faculty of History, I received answers to many questions about the Genocide, but I decided to make my knowledge more comprehensive. By applying to the program, I received detailed answers to questions related to both the Armenian Genocide and the genocides taking place in the world, which help to make a comprehensive analysis," assures Shushan.
In the conversation with us, she tells that she is passing on the knowledge gained at YSU to the students at school. According to Shushan, one of the important keys to becoming a good specialist is also the basic education acquired during the school years.
"Children are the builders of the future: the perpetuation of our motherland is directly related to the students' patriotism," says Shushan enthusiastically, and this enthusiasm shows her great love for the students.
The YSU Master's student talks about her profession with the same enthusiasm, adding that the scholarship she received obliges her not only to continue her studies in the same spirit but also to strive for more.
